What Is Truth? – Michael Baldwin

Michael Baldwin

What Is Truth?
Pilate said to Jesus, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out
again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him. – John 18:38

Man will occasionally stumble over the truth,
but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on. – Sir Winston Churchill

You shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you flee.
For if you find you find the truth,
you’ll find it is not free.
What is truth?

If truth be told, truth cannot be told.
Truth is the hand that seeks itself to hold.
It is the egg-tooth which kills the newborn chick
if the egg shell is not sufficiently thick.
It is the third eye that requires a third eye to see.
It is the Ouroboros eating its own tail, endlessly.

I have never been able to tell the truth,
not even to myself, especially to myself.
I am my most gullible auditor.
No? Know: this statement is a lie.
It is all true–everything!

We cannot lie, for truth lies in our very being.
Some truth we do not recognize,
some truth we do not accept,
some truth we are incapable of comprehending.
Yet there is nothing but truth, truth unending.

When I was young I thought everything
was either right or wrong.
I was right,
I was wrong.
